1. Jarak dari kawasan meja pejabat ataupun almari... Kalau dapat almari yang tinggi lagi bagus...
2. Tiada halangan seperti dinding yang tidak boleh tembus signal seperti dinding batu, kayu dan sebagainya (bersifat penebat atau penolak signal)
3. Letak di luar bangunan ataupun luar bilik ataupun ruangan tamu.... biasanya lagi besar dan luas akan membuatkan signal menjadi lebih kuat. contoh seperti gambar wifi saya...

haa nie baru kategori signal dapat kuat dan baru semangat nak browse hehehe.
4. Branding sesuatu modem juga memainkan peranan dan juga jenis antenna yang di gunakan juga memainkan peranan.
5. Kebolehan sistem wiring/tarif elektrik juga perlu di perhatikan supaya tidak menjadi masalah kepada diri tuan yang ingin menggunakan internet.... mahal ker murah ker.... semuanya akan di tanggung oleh tuan yang empunya wifi tersebut... nak buka beberapa jam ker.... 12 jam ker atau 24jam kali 1 minggu, 1 bulan dan 1 tahun dan seterusnya.
6. Standby unit sekiranya mengalami kerosakan juga perlu kalau niat nak buat business. Kalau setakat guna sendiri pun tunggu steamik agent datang repair ataupun tunggu report pun terpulang pada diri masing.
7. Cara penggunaan dalam rumah atau bilik juga memainkan peranan penting seperti cara pembukaan signal dari antenna juga seperti dalam gambar ini.

Ways to Boost the WiFi Signal Strength


If you too have a problem getting Wi-Fi signals in every corner of your house, here are some tips (and accessories) to help you extend the range of your wireless network.
#1. Install the DD-WRT firmware on your wireless router – this might help increase the range of your Wi-Fi router by a few meters if not more.
To increase the signal strength, you can increase the router's transmit power and also disable both frame burst and afterburner (the settings can be accessed from the router's web dashboard). If DD-WRT firmware is not available for your router, try the Tomato firmware on your router.


#2. Most routers have omni-directional antennas so they emit wireless signals in all directions (just like a light bulb).
That’s fine if you have placed the router in a central location but if the router is in some corner of your room or against a wall, consider adding a home-made reflectorbehind the antennas of your router.

#3. InSSIDer is a free utility that can help you detect the presence and strength of wireless networks. Install InSSIDer on your laptop, walk around the house with your laptop to determine the wireless signal strength at various places and, based on this information, you can quickly find a more suitable location for the router.
#4. Ideally, you should place the router at a height in some central location and away from other cordless devices. Make sure that the router is not placed near something metallic (like an almirah or window grills) as that will weaken the wireless signals. Avoid mirrors as they can reflect the wireless signals away from the desired direction.
#5. Wireless routers generally ship with omni-directional antennas but you can replace them with more powerful uni-directional antennas and that will keep the signal from getting broadcast in all directions.
If you can’t find a compatible directional antenna for your router model, consider a booster antenna that’s omni-directional but will still boost both the range and strength of wireless signals

Tuan dah cuba ker? camana hasilnyer?

Kalau boster tu saya x pakai cuma untuk guna scan detector wifi crack tu saya dah pakai power dia pakai usb... kalau signal software tu saya dah pakai okey memang ada nampak cara signal bar dan berapa jumlah db...

Kalau pakai wifi jenis dongle tu saya biasa buat pakai tong fringles atau pun keropok tempatan. Kalau nak buat pakai kertas tebal dengan aluminium foil tu senang jek tn gambar dah ada copy paste aja... signal ada perbezaan... Booster device tu kalau beli branded mahal.... kalau murah selalu made china tapi kualiti ada kurang sikit.... biasalah beli branded dengan local china.... Malaysia nak cari buat sendiri x ada kalau ada hmmm x pasti.

I have been playing around with some wifi networking lately, mostly with the La Fonera, and finally decided to build a directional wifi antenna. Although the cantenna, however, I don’t really like Pringles chips and wanted to make something more interesting. I decided to try and make a simple Yagi antenna with a magnetic dipole as the driving element.

From a construction standpoint, the Yagi antenna is made by spacing conducting rods along the directionality axis with a driving element near one end. It is assumed that the incoming radiation is a TEM plane wave, so the direction of the electric field component should be parallel to the conducting rod orientation. The magnetic component is then perpendicular to the rods and to the directionality of the antenna. The rods spacing is then configured so that the coupled EM field generates a magnetic field component (and a curling electric field component) along the directionality axis of the antenna which has constructive interference at the driving loop. Proper spacing then determines the antenna’s gain and directionality in the band of interest (2.4-2.5GHz).

As a first step, I decided to reproduce the Yagi design made available by Andrew Hakman who reproduced the dimensions of a commercial antenna. This first implementation will test the basic operation and is still missing fine tuning and optimization. I am pretty happy with the initial results which demonstrate a 10dBi gain, which is pretty nice given that it took roughly half an hour to assemble. I will use a more precise construction technique (EGX-300 to mill the main beam) and will work out the optimal metal rod length to magnetic dipole ratio. The main idea is that the loop length needs to support one of the resonant transmission modes for the given frequency while the rods should be as long as possible to increase gain, but shorter than the length of the loop. If anyone wants more info on Yagi theory of operation, please post a comment and I will try to write up a post about it.

To construct this, I used a 0.5×0.5 inch piece of wood for the main beam, and 0.125 inch zinc rods for the conductors. I cut the rods to match the lengths in the above design and sanded the ends to remove any pointy spots. I measured out the positions for the rods on a piece of tape and used a small drill press to make the holes. I then gently tapped the rods into place and removed the tape. I cut the loop out of a sheet of bronze, mainly because that is what I had around. It is better to use a strip (versus a round wire) here to make the loop more sensitive to magnetic field components along the directionality axis. Finally, I decided to minimize transmission losses and mounted a USB 802.11g adapter directly onto the loop. I hot-glued everything into place and went to a large set of windows to test out the contraption.

To benchmark the devices performance, I compared signal strengths to the internal wifi adapter on my Lenovo T60. The signal strengths for the same APs were comparable between the internal adapter and the intact USB adapter so any improvement that I saw here was likely due to the Yagi. Although it was sometimes challenging to find the right direction to point the Yagi, I noted a substantial increase in signal power when I switched Netstumbler between the internal and external wifi adapters. Over all, I consider this to be a success since I got better performance from the USB adapter by investing a few dollars and a hour of my time. The next version will be forthcoming in the next weeks and will hopefully display even better performance.

Kismet + GPSDrive + MySQL + Python = Google Earth Wlan Map
Last week I decided to build a map of the wireless access point in the Town. It is not really easy to find the right tools, so I decided to write this little Howto.

To archive this goal you need severals tools:

Kismet
First install Kismet. You need a wireless card that support RFMon in monitor mode. I think Madwifi cards, and patched Orinoco are the only ones that support this.

Launch Kismet, and now check for a given AP that kismet know the best level..

If everything is ok, edit the kismet config file and set gps=try

GPSDrive
Download and install the latest CVS version of GPSDrive (I have some issues with the latest tgz and kismet). The next step is to have a GPS working with gpsd. Most GPS will work, I bought a cheap one with a USB cord on ebay.

Simply launch gpsd, and after gpsdrive. You should see the reception level in GPSDrive.


MySQL
To use Kismet + GPSDrive, you need to have a MySQL database. In fact GPSDrive will ask to kismet the new APs, and dump this informations in a MySQL db. You can find the create.sql in GPSDrive sources.

mysql -u root -p < ./create.sqlThis will add a user : gast / gast

First try
Ok, now launch GPSDrive and set the ‘use SQL’ (or edit the config file), and quit.

Now to start the whole stuff:

Plug the wireless antenna (this is better for wardriving
Plug the GPS
Launch gpsd (be carefull to have enought satellite in view)
Launch Kismet (it should tell you, it find the GPS…)
Launch GPSDrive (it should display a little kismet logo on bottom)
Now, you’re ready to go, walk down the street you should see new APs on the GPSDrive map.



After the trip: Google Earth
Ok, now you have a lot of points in your database.. And GPSDrive have a little troubles to display them.. After a little time, i decided to install Google Earth, and look at the way to add new points on the map..

This, is quite simple, all i need to do is to extract data form the SQL, and build a xml file that contain all the points. I decided to write gpsdriveToGoogleEarth.py. This quick and dirty script will generate a file ‘ap.kml’. Now simply launch Google Earth and open this file. You will see something like this:



The main issue for me, is that Google Earth doesn’t support Linux right now so I need to dual-boot.. But this provide a easy way to build the card without too much pain. And i can share the Google Earth file others guys simply.

WARNING
I do this only for the fun, so don’t try to hack wireless access point using this howto, this is not the goal !
